Country singer Toby Keith, in his 2002 pro-war hit "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue":
"Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list,
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist.
And the eagle will fly,
And there's gonna be Hell,
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell!
It's gonna feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you...
Brought to you courtesy of the Red, White and Blue!
Oh, Justice will be served and the battle will rage.
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A
'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way."
Toby Keith, to CBS News, yesterday:
"It's amazing how many Republicans call me for support. And then they go, 'You're a Republican right?' And you go, 'Well I'm actually a lifetime Democrat"
Where's the Republican Party supposed to turn for support, when even the hillbillies are fleeing?

As Paul Krugman points out - Bubba isn't who you think.
The song was written about the attack on 9/11, to the terrorists. He has said over and over that he doesn't enough about it to know if the war was the right thing or not. He has never supported it in word or song. He totally supports all of our troops, wherever they are, and does free concerts for them every year. He voted for Bush, but also voted for Clinton. He loves his country, and supports our military, and has not changed his mind about anything he has said from the beginning of it all, except to say that he is sorry he got involved in that stupid, petty argument with what's-her-name.
Ugh. Have you met anyone yet who doesn't "support our troops"? Bush does. Toby Keith does. I do. Natalie Maines does. EVERYONE "supports our troops." It's become the equivalent of that person in the Oprah audience who brings the whole discussion to a halt by standing up and say "But what about THE CHILDREN?" to thunderous applause.
I understand the anger with 9/11 -- my problem is with the mad- dog, bite- anything- that- moves- response.
Who cares if he's democrat? Honestly, Repubs and Dems are just bastard cousins and they have more in common then the don't.
